VIRTUAL GLOBAL SYSTEMS AG

VIRTUAL GLOBAL SYSTEMS AG «VGLS» based in Aarau is a company which is specialized in engineering and production of embedded devices for reading and controlling decentralized generation units.
VGLS applies this technology in order to pool units of end-consumers and decentralized producers having larger adjustable flexibilities. VGLS’s platform coordinates and controls the units without any restriction to the participants’ core business. Participants in the pool receive considerable returns for the provision of their flexibility. VGLS’ pool guarantees the availability of the contracted power vis-à-vis Swissgrid at all times.

Our pool is open to all interested end-users and distribution system operators which are willing to support the security of power supply with the installed consumption and production capacities within any grid area. The managing and controlling of the pool requires safe communication right from the start. This is the only way how commercial and manufacturing businesses and distribution grid operators in particular may be won. VGLS markets the aggregated tertiary and secondary control reserves in Swissgrid’s tendering procedure in an optimal way.

Prequalification certificate entitling the first photovoltaic systems in Switzerland to participate in the tertiary market was issued by swissgrid on 01/22/2016. In the meantime 129 plants with an output of TRL+ 109 MW, TRL- 87 MW und SRL 12 MW are located in the pool. (2017-06)

The actual development, production and distribution of the devices is done by VGLS itself. With our technology, application without restrictions is secure, traceable and identifiable. The virtual power plant is being managed within VGLS’s own group (EIC: 12X-0000001934-O).

Business Model

The virtual power plant of the VGLS is operated in the balance group 12X-0000001934-O
- Analysis of your portfolio / your generation units
- Assessment of your sites and selection of the largest, most powerful units which may be «easily» integrated
- Development of the decentralized units (Gateway SDG100, interfaces etc.)
- Connection to our Pool
- Bidding in swissgrid’s tenders
- All risk is covered by the Pooler

Capitalizing on generation units which «lie idle» by offering the free capacity to the Pool and thus placing it at the disposal of swissgrid.

The following generation units are particularly fit for a participation in our Pool:

Waste incineration plant
Standby emergency power generators
Batteries
Machines
Pumps
Cooling devices
Heating devices
Steam generators
Biomass plants
Other generation units which can be switched on or off for at least a 4 hour block

Necessary requirements:

Units are connected to the grid
Capacity >200 kW

Ancillary Services - Pool

In our Pool are:

 Small hydropower plants

 Standby emergency diesel generators

 Heating contracting devices

 Block heating stations

 Cooling Systems

 Pumps

 Wood-fired power station

 Batteries

...

Technical requirements - Checklist

The unit has a minimum nominal capacity of 200 kW

The unit is connected to the grid (no isolated operation)

The flexible capacity of the unit may be made 100% available 15 minutes after being requested

The unit may get started by a signal (max. 24V) or via a control system. Also an installation of a relais is possible.

Consumption and feed-in of energy respectively is being measured (power flow in intervalls of 10s) [interface Modbus, SO, DLSM COSEM], if not existing a performance measuring device may be installed, Econ Sens+3200A for example

At best the unit is already connected to a control system.
